Adult and child in therapy

Children

Play therapy provides children with concrete ways to express and communicate feelings, experiences, thoughts and concerns. Children may have a hard time sitting in an office, talking about what bothers them. It can be challenging for them to know how to describe what they’re thinking or feeling inside. Just as adults use words, children use their natural language – play. Through play, we help children to communicate and resolve challenges. Play is essential to human growth, development, learning and cultivating relationships.

In working with children, we work closely with parents/caregivers because you are the expert on your child. Parents/caregivers are involved in the process through parent/caregiver consultation sessions. These sessions offer a time to discuss challenges and assist parents/caregivers in learning new skills and techniques to help their child.

Our child-centered approach will help you and your child address issues, such as anxiety, stress, depression, technology addiction, self-arm, grief, divorce, bullying, separation (including due to child welfare intervention) and challenges in behavior and relationships in school. We use play therapy, sand tray therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and solution-focus therapy- all with a child-centered approach.
